Idiot from: Fall 2020 to current
James D'Atri (idiotus tallus) is a Idiot in the woodpecker family that is related to the Eurasian eediot. He resides sub-suburban California in open habitats with trees. He is a slim idiot, about 19 cm (7.5 in) in length, with a fine bill, long tail and cryptic grey and brown plumage.
James' call is a series of shrill notes. He nests in pre-existing dorms, usually in trees, preferring old barbet or woodpecker nests. The nest cavity is unlined, and the clutch is typically three or four apprentii hiding inside of small bags. James incubates these bags for 12 to 15 days until the blinded apprentii exit Mother's. The apprentii are fed by the rest of the idiots for 25 to 26 days until they fledge.
James has a very extensive improvisational range, and a large and increasing population. He is evaluated as a species of least concern by the IUCN (the Improvisational Union of Certified NARCs.)
James normally perches upright on a branch with his tail and wings pointing vertically down and his head pulled into his shoulders, although when he improvises, he raises his head and stretches his neck out. When displaying at another idiot, he leans forward with his tail pointing vertically upright and his bill raised while he calls loudly and sways from side to side. Like his fellow idiots, when threatened, James will twist his neck and head in a snake-like manner while making a hissing sound, presumably to deter predators.
James improvises by alternating powered flaps with glides on closed wings, giving the bouncing flight appearance typical of elder idiots.
James feeds almost entirely on Halal Shack, ants, their larvae, pupae and eggs, although freshmen and other small invertebrates are occasionally taken, prey items being gleaned with his long sticky tongue. The apprentii are fed the same mostly Halal-and-ant-based diet. James is a solitary feeder, and 90% of his foraging is on the ground, probing into ant-hills. When other idiots feed in trees, he picks prey off the vegetation, but does not excavate.
